Former Sri Lankan all-rounder Shehan Jayasuriya is set to make his debut for the United States in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The 34-year-old, a left-handed bowler and off-spinner, has been named in the USA's 15-man squad for the tournament, which begins on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.

Having played 12 ODIs and 18 T20Is for Sri Lanka from 2015 to 2020, Jayasuriya is one of only two players on the team yet to make their debut for the USA. The other is Peshawar-born 29-year-old legspin-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Mohsin, who is yet to feature in an international match.

Also in the squad is Pune-born batsman Shubham Ranjane, who has played four ODIs for the USA but is yet to feature in a Twenty20 series.

Ranjan is the grandson of Vasant Ranjan, a medium pacer who played seven Tests for India from 1958 to 1964.

The squad includes 10 players who made USA's run to the Super Eight stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup. This includes the team's leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in the tournament, Andries Gows and Saurabh Nethrawalker, and captain Monank Patel.

However, star batsman Aaron Jones is not in the squad as he has been charged under the ICC and CWI's Anti-Corruption Code and has been suspended from all cricket.

As USA Cricket is currently suspended by the ICC, the squad was selected by a panel headed by head coach Pubudu Dasanayake and the selection was monitored by a compliance officer appointed by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).

USA is in Group A with Pakistan, Namibia, Netherlands and defending champions India. They open the tournament against co-hosts India in Mumbai on February 7, then face Pakistan in Colombo on February 10 – who they famously defeated in the 2024 edition – before their final two group matches in Chennai, against the Netherlands (February 13) and Namibia (February 15).
