Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has introduced a strict new code of conduct for players and support staff, covering areas such as dress, language, social media use, and personal behaviour.
The new guidelines will come into effect as players sign contracts for the upcoming season, following the expiry of previous agreements on March 31.
Under the new rules, the use of profane or inappropriate language within the team environment is strictly prohibited. Any player or staff member found using such language during tours will face fines imposed by the team manager.
Restrictions have also been placed on social media usage. Players are not allowed to engage in paid promotions or advertising activities that conflict with team ethics or disrupt team harmony.
The dress code has been tightened, with players and staff prohibited from wearing studs or earrings during training sessions and tours. This has been introduced to maintain professionalism and ensure safety. In addition, visiting SLC headquarters wearing shorts and slippers is no longer allowed.
One of the most notable aspects of the new code is the restriction on sexual activity during tournaments. SLC stated that this measure is aimed at protecting players from risks such as honey-trapping, blackmail, and attempts to extract confidential information.
However, an exception is made for relationships with a player’s own partner, provided it does not interfere with professional duties or focus.
SLC emphasized that the overall objective of these new regulations is to protect the image of both the country and its players, while ensuring that players remain fully focused on the game.
