New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell has been ruled out of the remainder of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after re-injuring his left calf, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed on Tuesday. Cole McConchie has been named as his replacement in the squad.

Bracewell had initially torn his calf during the ODI series against India last month but recovered in time for the World Cup. However, he aggravated the injury during warm-ups ahead of Sunday’s victory over Afghanistan.

“We’re all feeling for Michael. It’s really tough to get ruled out of a World Cup and I know how much playing for New Zealand means to him,” head coach Rob Walter said.

“Cole is a seasoned campaigner. He brings a great all-round skillset along with significant T20 experience. It’s valuable to have an experienced head in a World Cup environment,” he added.

New Zealand defeated the UAE by 10 wickets on Tuesday to finish top of Group D. They will next face South Africa on Saturday in Ahmedabad.
