The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that Bangladesh will not face any financial, sporting or administrative penalties despite being excluded from the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after refusing to play their matches in India.

In a statement, the ICC said the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) retains the right to approach the Dispute Resolution Committee under existing regulations, adding that its approach was guided by principles of neutrality, fairness and facilitative support rather than punishment.

As part of the understanding reached with the BCB, the ICC also confirmed that Bangladesh will host an ICC event prior to the 2031 Men’s ODI World Cup, which the country is set to co-host with India, subject to standard ICC hosting procedures.

The ICC replaced Bangladesh in the tournament with Scotland after their government refused to allow Bangladesh to travel to India amid deteriorating political relations. The BCB had proposed to move the Bangladesh matches to Sri Lanka, but the ICC board voted against the request, so they boycotted the T20 World Cup.
